Overview

The OPITO Piper Alpha Memorial MSc Safety Scholarship at Robert Gordon University will offer two scholarships of £6,000 each towards the scholarship students’ maintenance costs.  In addition, the scholarship recipient obtaining the highest mark in their dissertation at the end of their studies will receive a further £500. The OPITO Piper Alpha Memorial MSc Safety Scholarship  will also offer the successful students, mentoring and research support when required.

Other Requirements

This scholarship is by invitation of Aberdeen Business School only. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, demonstration of particular personal characteristics and financial need.

Priority will be given to applicants not already in receipt of a scholarship for their postgraduate studies.  Students may not hold more than one corporate funded scholarship at any one time.

The scholarships are open to applicants currently studying on one of the listed campus-based, one-year, full-time degree programmes which started in September 2020.

The scholarships are NOT open to applicants currently studying the programmes online or on a part-time basis.

The scholars’ dissertations must address the issue of 'Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry’. 

OPITO Piper Alpha Memorial Scholars must attain satisfactory academic reports. Failure to do so could result in termination of the scholarship. 

The scholarship will lapse if the student ceases to study at Robert Gordon University.

How to Apply

If you feel you fulfil the criteria and are planning a dissertation on the issue of 'Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry’ please speak to your course leader who will be able to qualify your eligibility and, where suitable, invite you to apply using the forms available for download on the website. Applications should be submitted to your Course Leader via your Course Moodle DropBox no later than 24 May 2021. Applications received after this time will not be considered.

Scholarships will be awarded by a panel of judges from the School Senior Management Team based on academic merit and subject relevance to the issue of ‘safety in the oil and gas industry’. The judges’ decision is impartial and final with no mechanism for appeal.
