Overview

Emergency loans are designed to provide short-term financial assistance to students in immediate need, primarily for essential maintenance costs such as food, travel and consumables/toiletries. These loans are not intended for tuition fees, rent payments, library fines, or non-essential expenses.

The Emergency Loan funds are extremely limited, loans are capped at £50 per student and each student can only borrow one loan at a time. An increase to £100 is available only in exceptional circumstances.

Emergency loans are not grants and must be repaid, nor are they a solution to long term underfunding or cash-flow problems.

Repayments

All emergency loans must be repaid within a maximum period of 8 weeks. This term is crucial to uphold the emergency nature of these loans and to foster responsible borrowing and repayment habits. Timely repayment is essential, as it allows us to continue offering support to other students facing financial difficulties.

Payment Method

RGU has partnered with Flywire to accept payments from students based in the UK and Internationally. Details about how to make a payment online by bank transfer or card:

Non-payment of Emergency Loan

Students who fail to repay an emergency loan on time may face enrolment delays, be refused future funds, and be referred to the University’s External Debt Collection Agency, impacting their credit rating.
