Business Analytics for Healthcare Management

Stage 1

You will develop the knowledge and skills to use appropriate tools and techniques to collect, manage and present data and to develop decision-making processes based on data analysis. You will gain an understanding of the application of data analytics in healthcare management. 

Stage 2

By the end of the second stage of the course you will have developed an understanding of programming concepts relevant to business analytics. You will build a further knowledge of Public Health contexts and will consider the legal and ethical principles and policies which govern data collection and management. 

Stage 3

In the final stage of the course you will research, develop and deliver a self-directed capstone project, integrating the skills and knowledge developed in the earlier stages of the course. This self-directed piece of work can be completed in an area of your choosing as an applied analytics project for a live client or problem, or a research-based project in a related area. For students already in employment, this project can be applied in a work-based setting.

Learning Methods

The course makes use of both online and on-campus delivery. Modules are delivered by both the School of Computing, Engineering and Technology, and the School of Health through lectures, workshops, live projects, case studies and industry engagement / mentorship.

Activity Summary

Access to our virtual learning environment, Moodle, is provided giving you access from home to learning materials (including videos, e-books and journals).

• Lectures - 60-150 students per group, 4-8 hours per week
• Tutorial - 10-100 students per group, 4-8 hours per week
• Project Supervision - 10-15 student per group, 0.5 hours per week
• Practical class or workshop - 10-100 students per group, 4-8 hours per week
• Independent Study - varies, 10-25 hours per week

Independent Study

Students are expected to demonstrate a proactive and autonomous approach to their learning. In addition to time spent in class and on assessments, students are expected to engage in additional reading, directed and non-directed study.

The course benefits from input and expertise from the School of Health and the School of Computing, Engineering and Technology. • 1 written assignment, including essays
• 3 portfolios
• 1 project output
• 2 part Capstone project
• 1 oral assessments and/or presentation
• 1 practical skills assessment

What is needed for an MSc in Business Analytics for Healthcare Management?

• Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in any subject area.
• Applicants with a lower degree classification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis. 

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.
