Change is an intrinsic part of occupational life today and change management is a wide term that covers all elements of bringing about changes in organisations. Therefore, effective change management interventions ensure that an organisation makes wise decisions at the appropriate time to increase productivity and profitability; and decrease risk.
The course is designed to provide you with strategic and operational knowledge and understanding of the theories, strategies, models and practices available to organisations to address the change agenda and implement change effectively.
The topics covered in the course will include:
- introduction to change management,
- categories and types of change,
- organisational development,
- tools and models of change,
- human reactions to change,
- the role of leaders, managers and HR in change,
- the role of organisational culture in change,
- the role of learning, innovation and internal communication in change.
These will be under four broad themes:
- understanding change,
- reactions to change,
- roles and responsibilities in change
- supporting and embedding change.
It is expected that by the end of the course, you should have gained knowledge and understanding of the subject area of managing change. Be confident in critical analysis and evaluation of theories relevant to the above subject area. Be competent practice and application of the theories relevant to the above subject area.
Students would be aware of operational and strategic aspects of business decision-making within the above subject area in addition to having background insight into the major aspects of the internal and external business environments.

Learning Methods
This is a fully online programme, delivered online using the University’s virtual learning environment, Moodle. Learning materials include lecture slides, topic overviews, video clips, interactive forums and real time online tutorials.
There is a short induction session where you can get to know your classmates and learn more about the aims and structure of the course. You will then embark on approximately 8 weeks of study delivered online. Teaching is broken down into short manageable (approximately 1-hour) recorded lectures, fortnightly tutorial sessions and additional activities (approximately 4 hours per week) that you can study in your own time and at your own pace. Though studying online, you will have access to your tutor who will be able to answer any questions you may have.
At the end of the course, you will submit the module assessment, the brief of which will be uploaded from the start of your course.
To complete this course, you will need access to a modern laptop or computer running an up-to-date operating system and a reliable internet connection.

- Tutorial - approximately 40 students per group, 1 hour per fortnight
Independent Study
Students are expected to engage in wider reading around each of the topics within the module. There will be directed reading as well as guidance on wider reading.
The majority of this course is completed through online independent study; it is expected that you will spend approximately 6-9 hours per week working on this module. Whilst you are studying independently, you won’t be alone. Your tutor will be there to support you throughout the module.
Assessment
Typically, students are assessed via a coursework submission which will be a 3,000-word academic report.
