Net-zero targets demand low-carbon transport; transitions from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) are a core element of low-carbon automobility.

Yet ICE campervans have recently become increasingly popular consumer vehicles offering daytime mobility and overnight accommodation. Buying and equipping mobile homes is expensive, offset by perceived lasting used value. However, ICE-BEV transition will curtail fuel demand – reducing fuel supply and increasing cost – disrupting campervan owners’ and rental companies’ accounting assumptions. These issues remain poorly understood but will influence business models and social practices. We invite proposals exploring this nexus to inform policy and practice.
