This module is part of the Masters Community Children Nurse (SPQ) programme. Delivered and assessed online this module prepares practitioners to develop a critical understanding of the theories, principles, and concepts in relation to contemporary community children's nursing.
This module is part of the MSc Advanced Practice - Community Children’s Nursing course, but can also be undertaken as a stand-alone module.
This module can be taken as a standalone module or as part of the Masters Community Children Nurse (SPQ) programme.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions and share good practice within a safe learning environment.
If you are a registered practitioner looking to develop a higher level of knowledge and skills required for specialist and advanced practice within community children care, then this module is for you.
Over the run of this module, you will learn to undertake holistic assessment of children and young people in order to autonomously manage and evaluate complex episodes of care.
You will explore this in themes focusing on the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and neurological systems.
Your assessment will be undertaken online.
This online module is delivered asynchronous and synchronised and held on our virtual learning environment, Moodle. There will be online activities and learning resources, with one live online tutorial per week on average.
You will be allocated an Academic Tutor who offer academic guidance. Your Personal Tutor will provide pastoral support if and when needed. As a cohort there will also be peer learning activities. Learning activities are designed to be accessible and inclusive to all.
Staff on this course are experienced healthcare lecturers and include Children and Young People nurses from a variety of paediatric backgrounds. Staff teaching on this programme have paediatric clinical experience and also have extensive experience in developing and delivering the undergraduate CYP nursing programme. In addition to this staff have also been nominated for Support and Teaching staff with Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards voted by the students. They also have educational and research experience.
We aim to provide you with feedback within 20 working days of hand-in for all written exams, coursework and practical exams.
This module can be undertaken as a standalone module preparing you for advanced roles in a range of healthcare settings.
As part of the MSc Advanced Practice - Community Children’s Nursing course, you will develop the decision-making, research and leadership skills required to deal with complex situations.
The programme is designed to allow you to continue and develop your knowledge and skills within your own areas of practice, enabling you to accelerate your career progression.

The minimum entry requirement for this programme will normally be an honours degree or its equivalent.
In addition, because of the practice-based nature of the programme, all students must be working in clinical practice or sponsored by a Health Board/appropriate employer and have access to a practice assessor/practice supervisor.
Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 7.0 overall, with no component lower than 6.5, or an equivalent.
Applicants must also meet the NMC English standard requirement.
