During this 6-week course you will be introduced to several fundamental techniques used in both drawing and painting. This evening course provides you with an opportunity to experiment with a range of different mediums whereby you are invited to do so in a contemporary way.
Throughout this series of drawing workshops, you are invited to experiment with a number of mark making techniques associated with both drawing and painting. Alongside this you are encouraged to explore a range of mediums.
Firstly, this will involve using core materials such as pencil, graphite sticks, graphite powder, conte pencils, charcoal, and soft pastels. Using this media, you will be guided through several drawing exercises, together taking inspiration from a series of images supplied by the artist; a moving train, a subject matter currently involved within the tutors own artistic practice. Through these exercises you will learn how to re-create the feeling of motion.
Secondly, you will explore a still life set up whereby you will concentrate on drawing objects, shapes, composition, and simple perspective. During this you will learn about the importance of tone whilst using charcoal and incorporating oil paint in a reductive way.
Thirdly, you will integrate the use of ink whereby you will experiment with different drawing tools such as nip pens and wooden sticks whilst experimenting with different control techniques.
Taking inspiration from the natural world, you will create further studies using acrylic paint combined with gesso. Combining the use of watercolors and drawing pens with wax resist you will examine pattern, texture and colour whilst drawing with brushes.
