Examining the impact of care assurance processes in health care
Research Opportunities
Summary
This is an opportunity to gain fundamental skills and training in undertaking health service research and in working in partnership across HEI and health care environments. The student will be expected to work independently under supervision of academic supervisors and clinical advisors. They will gain experience and develop competence in a wide range of research skills through designing and conducting a robust research project.
The project will focus on an evaluation of the approach taken by NHS Grampian to care assurance. The system of care assurance engaged with by nursing leaders was designed and implemented to enable a commitment to continuous quality improvement. How well it has achieved that aim is uncertain. More specifically it is not fully understood how helpful the framework is at providing assurance; how well it is engaged with by a range of stakeholders. It is also not known how effective it has been in supporting structural empowerment in nursing and midwifery leaders; how it has improved practice and how it has facilitated the use of transformational learning and change processes.;
Considering how radical the care assurance framework is, specifically with the inclusion of international KPIs for person-centred nursing practice, it is critical that the impact of the framework is examined in detail. By doing so we generate evidence of effectiveness of approaches to enhancing nursing practice and patient outcomes which have local and international relevance.
