The Denis Law RGUplus Award

At RGU, we believe every student and community member has something unique to offer. The Denis Law RGUplus Award is your opportunity to explore, define, and showcase the skills and values that make you stand out - whether you're studying, volunteering, or contributing to society in other meaningful ways.

Discover your potential with the Denis Law RGUplus Award.

The award is built around three learning strands, each designed to help you grow in different ways:

  • Embracing Sustainability - Explore sustainability through the lens of your course and discover how your discipline can contribute to a more responsible and resilient future.
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindset - Learn to think differently about the future. This strand encourages you to develop creative solutions and an entrepreneurial outlook—no matter your field of study.
  • Community Engagement - Show how you add value to the world around you. Whether through volunteering, course-based community work, or other forms of active citizenship, this strand celebrates your impact.

Employers today are looking for more than just qualifications - they want graduates who bring transferable skills, a proactive attitude, and a clear sense of identity. The Denis Law RGUplus Award helps you build that confidence and clarity, so you leave RGU ready to make your mark.

We also recognise the incredible contributions of our wider community. In partnership with the Denis Law Legacy Trust, the Community Engagement strand of the award is open to community members who dedicate their time to supporting others, alongside our students.

About the Denis Law RGUplus Awards

Denis Law (1940–2025) was one of Scotland’s greatest footballers and a legendary figure. Born in Aberdeen, he rose from humble beginnings to become a global icon. His life and legacy were shaped by his values, his drive to achieve, and his commitment to helping others succeed.

Denis overcame adversity to reach the pinnacle of football, all while remaining grounded and deeply connected to his roots in Aberdeen. He firmly believed in giving back and supporting others, and his determination helped him transcend sport to become a symbol of hope and pride - especially in Scotland.

His legacy lives on through the Denis Law Legacy Trust and the Denis Law RGUplus Awards that bear his name, continuing his mission to recognise, uplift, and inspire future generations.
