Brian Cromarty

Brian Cromarty

Using contemporary story of renewable energy for composing musical pieces, Brian considers the context of Orkney Islands and its communities, where renewable energy plays a key role in people’s sense of place.

Interested in exploring musical avenues outside of live performance, Brian chose to bring the ‘The Orkney Energy Community’ story to life by collecting field recordings to build a collection of the natural and industrial sounds that characterise Orkney.

Brian’s work is a great example of a creative approach to storytelling, or ‘creating’ a story. Using contemporary story of renewable energy, it considers the context of Orkney Islands and its communities, where renewable energy plays a key role in people’s sense of place. Brian’s music showcases the co-existence of natural and contemporary man-made features of Orkney, reflecting the links between past, present and future of the island and its people.
