How does it relate to Collection and Creation stages?
The process of curation involves choosing the stories for storage and preservation, and for subsequent creation – the display and sharing of stories. Curation usually takes place once the stories are known, or collected. Curation may also play an important role in the Creation stage of a project and may form an integral part of the creation of exhibits and outputs.
Why is this important?
The Curation stage helps you to understand which stories are relevant for you and why. Curation is usually required ahead of the creation of storytelling outputs and helps you to narrow down, focus and edit stories to fit with the purpose of your project. Whether you have undertaken the Collection stage of this toolkit or already have access to an existing collection of stories, it is likely that the scope and format of this collection will be broad. We would, of course, love to include all stories in the final outputs of a place-based storytelling project but this is not always feasible. The Curation stage helps you to think about the key questions and issues that will inform this editing and selection process.
