RGU architecture students present bold visions for Peterhead
Monday 15 September 2025
The work was exhibited during the public consultation process for the Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan 2029 at the Peterhead Town House from 8-13 September 2025.
Master of Architecture students from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment worked with Aberdeenshire planners to showcase a special selection of end-of-year projects, highlighting a series of bold and imaginative visions for the future of Peterhead.
The exhibition presented a range of visually striking concepts, offering new perspectives on how the town might evolve in response to social, cultural and environmental opportunities. From reimagined waterfronts to community-focused public spaces and town centre projects, the students’ work reflects both creative ambition and a deep commitment to thoughtful urban design.
The exhibition not only celebrated the students’ talent and creativity but also encouraged the wider public to engage with fresh ideas on place-making and the future of Peterhead.
Neil Lamb, Associate Dean of the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, said: “Our students have produced a powerful body of work that demonstrates the importance of architecture in shaping communities. Their projects for Peterhead capture both the challenges and the opportunities of designing for the future, and we are delighted to have been invited by Aberdeenshire Council planners to share these inspiring concepts with the public.”
Final year architecture student, Charlotte Telfer, said: "It has been an incredible opportunity for my fellow students and me to not only develop innovative new designs for Peterhead, but to share them directly with the local community and Aberdeenshire Council representatives. We are very grateful to those who came along and participated in the conversation. It has been inspiring and very rewarding to hear all the feedback. We’ve learned so much from this experience and it feels exciting to contribute fresh perspectives on the town's future."
Cllr Alan Turner, Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to see the creativity and ambition demonstrated by the students at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture. Their bold visions for Peterhead offer fresh and inspiring perspectives on how the town might evolve to meet future social, cultural and environmental needs. This collaboration with Robert Gordon University has brought valuable energy and innovation into the early stages of our Local Development Plan 2029, and I’m delighted that the public has had the opportunity to engage with these ideas. It’s a great example of how planning can be enriched through partnership and imagination.”
