Talented RGU graduates help technology firm move forward

Fennex has built a thriving organisational culture around those who work there by hiring RGU graduates with the key combination of both practical skills and knowledge-based learning. Based at the One Tech Hub in Aberdeen city centre, they have moved to new larger offices within the building due to an increase in talent, demand and entrepreneurial growth.

Thanks to the skills and experience that many of the four-year BA (Hons) Computer Science graduates have picked up during their studies and placements, the cohort of new employees have been able to make an immediate industry impact.

Having a fruitful partnership with RGU has helped the company have access to the many talented graduates from the School of Computing, providing a huge boost for Fennex and those looking to move into the digital sector after graduation.

John Isaacs, Dean of the School of Computing at RGU said: “An entrepreneurial spirit is core to our teaching, seeing so many of our graduates thrive in industry really is fantastic and it is great that their talent is being given a chance to shine with Fennex. Having close links and collaborative contact with companies like Fennex is vital for the University so our highly employable graduates can continue to thrive in their chosen careers.

“Partnerships like these are key as our talented computing students graduate and move into the world of work where they continue to impress with sought after skills and experience that is making a big impact.”

Nassima Brown, Director of Strategy at Fennex, explained that their team was built from the ground up due to the culture and attitude created by RGU to serve the industry around it. She said: “RGU understands what a university needs to do for value generation and through providing access to the right people and support, it is a success.”

Adrian Brown, Fennex Co-Founder and Managing Director, said: “All of our staff who graduated from RGU are extremely talented and have been able to hit the ground running since they joined us. We are so pleased that RGU’s School of Computing is helping their students gain vital industry skills.”

Bozhidar Yankov, the first RGU Computer Science graduate employee of Fennex, has proven to be an integral part of the business success story. Following a work placement as part of his computer science degree, an opportunity presented itself to join the company and support its growth and development overseeing various disciplines. Nearly six years later, he is part of the Fennex story and agreed that what he learned at RGU provided a solid foundation to develop his personal and professional skills within the workplace.

Sean Bissett, a more recent RGU graduate, joined Fennex nine months ago and cites the workplace environment where staff are actively encouraged to suggest new ideas and challenge industry knowledge as key to the firms’ success, especially considering the fast-paced and ever-changing sector landscape.

RGU is committed to ensuring its graduates are prepared for whatever path they take upon leaving the University. According to the HESA Graduate Outcomes 2022, RGU was first in Scotland and third in the UK for employability and/or further study.
