Our courses are so varied, from Nursing and Midwifery to Business Management, Engineering to Art and Design, that there’s no such thing as a typical student day! A first year’s day will be completely different from a fourth year’s, an undergraduate day quite unlike a postgraduate experience.
Your day will be broken up into some of the taught activities like lectures, seminars and workshops, together with one-to one sessions with academic staff. Of course, you will also be expected to do a lot of learning on your own throughout your studies. The importance of this will increase as you progress through your course and be especially true for our postgraduate students.
For many of our courses, you get to experience real working life with an employer on a student placement. You may also get the chance to experience student life abroad with anything from a few weeks to a year at one of our partner universities around the world.
The benefits of your time here at RGU stretch far beyond the lecture theatre and library. You will have time for your favourite leisure activities too, allowing you to have a fully rounded and beneficial experience and be ready to take on the world when you graduate.
Do something exciting
Playing an active part in Life at RGU is great for your development, boosts your CV, plus you can meet new people and have a lot of fun too!
Here are some of the exciting things you can do while you are a student at RGU.
If you’re looking for a fun way to boost your CV and gain invaluable experience, why not try volunteering!
From skydiving and sports coaching to youth work and fundraising, we can help find the right opportunity for you. There are lots of different ways to get involved, either in a voluntary role as part of the Union’s representative team, in the community with one of our local charity partners, or if you would rather not commit regularly you could try your hand at a one-off volunteering project.
Get involved with the Union
The Students’ Union has almost 50 different societies for you to join, from course-related groups such as Midwifery, Business, or Computing, to social groups full of people from across the university with common interests, such as gaming, film, photography or even Harry Potter! There is definitely something for everyone.
Events to suit all interests
The University hosts and promotes all kinds of events, from academic conferences to fun activities both on and off campus.
If you have an interest in presenting, producing or editing, then you’ll love our three student media outlets! RGU:Radio is the Union’s official student-run radio station, broadcasting live and on-demand from their studios on the university campus. The team at RGU:TV produce regular video content to help promote student events and raise awareness of societies, sports clubs and much more.
If writing or designing is your passion, then Radar Magazine would love to hear from you. Printed editions of the official RGU student magazine are released each semester, and online articles are uploaded daily with topics covering student activities, fashion, music, food, arts, and all areas of student life.
Raising and Giving
RGU:RAG is the charity fundraising arm of the Students’ Union. Their team organise a number of exciting charitable events throughout the year, with all proceeds going to local, national and international charities.
Students at RGU have raised well over £100,000 for countless different charities across the past few years through various different methods including bake sales, street collections, fashion shows, and they have even sent students to climb Mount Kilimanjaro!
