How to register for graduation
Details on how to register will be emailed to all eligible students approximately two months before the ceremonies.
You should register as soon as possible after you receive graduation information. Registration is essential even if you do not wish to attend the award ceremony. Don't wait until you have received your results as this may be too late.
If you haven’t received an email with details about your graduation and you think you should have, if you are unsure about how to make changes, or if you have any other questions about registering for graduation, email:
Read the Graduation Terms and Conditions before registering:
Graduating without attending the ceremony
Even if you do not wish to attend the ceremony you will need to register to graduate as ‘Not Attending the Ceremony’ (i.e. 'In Absentia'). Your award certificate will then be posted to you after the ceremony.
Certificates are posted standard mail the week following the ceremony. For UK addresses delivery is normally within 5 working days. For non-UK addresses we recommend allowing up to 20 working days.
Normally certificates are posted to international destinations by standard airmail. If you wish to have your certificate posted by courier at an additional cost of £20, please contact Student Records at studentrecords@rgu.ac.uk to request this.
The address your certificate will be sent to will be in your Graduation Confirmation of Registration email.
If you haven’t received an email and you think you should have, if you are unsure about how to make changes, or if you have any other questions, email studentrecords@rgu.ac.uk.
Exceptions
- You are a student on a linked degree/honours degree course who has completed the ordinary degree stage of your course but will proceed to the Honours year of the course in the next session.
- If you are studying an MSc course, you should not graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate if you are continuing to the Master's level stage.
If you do graduate at any of the exit points then proceed immediately to the next stage, your first certificate will have to be returned.

Gown Hire and dress code
You must wear full academic dress for the ceremony to gain access to the graduation auditorium. This consists of a gown, hood and (in most cases) a cap suited to your degree level. Academic dress is available for hire from Ede & Ravenscroft.
Orders for gown hire will open when you have received your invite to graduate.
As this is a formal event, we ask all graduands to dress accordingly. Formal wear may include suits with a tie, national dress, or other appropriate formal outfits. Jeans and/or t-shirts are not permitted.
