The Carceral Heritage Lab
Monday 16 November 2026 14:00 - 15:00
Location: Online via Teams

Join The Carceral Heritage Lab, a virtual Knowledge Exchange Café space for academics and practitioners to exchange ideas, best practices, and challenges in carceral heritage and tourism.
The virtual café offers a relaxed environment for knowledge exchange, and to share ideas, best practice, challenges, and reflections on the evolving landscape of carceral heritage.
This Carceral Heritage Lab will focus on the business of carceral heritage and we welcome Joel Campbell, Founder & CEO, Cove Group who leads the regeneration and operation of some of the UK's most iconic historic sites, including the former prisons at Shrewsbury, Shepton Mallet, and Peterhead. Joel will share with us his reflections, thoughts and experience managing a portfolio of carceral heritage sites. This will be followed by an opportunity for questions, knowledge exchange and the sharing of experience and ideas. We will explore questions such as what are the key challenges of managing carceral heritage? What does the current environment look like and what impacts does it have? Where might there be opportunities for innovation and research? And what might the future hold?
Become part of an international carceral heritage network!
Join us to share your knowledge and ideas as we explore new perspectives on practice and shape the research agenda for the future. Bring along your favourite tea, coffee, and biscuit, and take part in a lively exchange of knowledge and experiences with others working in or researching this important field.
