As we continue to develop our new creative development programme, we aim to introduce our Young Art School in 2024.
Young Art Weekender
For our first Young Art Weekender designed for those aged 11-15 yrs, we have invited five different creative practitioners who will deliver a range of 2-hour workshops throughout the weekend. Workshops will take place at Gray’s School of Art on 19-20 August 2023 and will focus on themes of line, construction and texture.

Oor Monsters invite young artists to join our scrap wood monster maker workshop held in Gray’s School of Art on Saturday 19 August. The 2-hour workshop explores the theme of construction whereby participants are encouraged to create and build a totem pole sculpture using scrap wooden materials. Once built, participants are invited to paint their individual wooden monster.
Oor Monsters invite participants to explore the theme of construction during this 2-hour workshop. During the playful session participants will learn how to construct a three-dimensional, wearable ‘Monster Mask’ or sculptural head piece using cardboard and adhesive. The workshop aims to encourage participants to respond creatively to everyday issues.
This 2-hour workshop invites participants to learn the process of cyanotype; learning how to make prints using the power of the sun. During the workshop participants will embark on a short group walk around the grounds that surround Gray’s School of Art whereby a mix of natural materials will be sourced, later used to make prints.
This two-hour workshop invites young creatives to explore the idea of texture through the process of screen printing through which participants will learn how to print onto fabric. During the workshop participants will create a series of experimental prints using pre-exposed screens and stencils. Subsequently participants are invited to design and create their own individual tote bag to take home.
This two-hour line drawing workshop introduces the theme of lines and how this can be used in both drawing and printmaking. During the workshop participants will explore collective drawing, continuous line drawing and blind contour drawing. In addition, participants will be taught the basics of mono printing and are invited to learn a DIY etching process.
During this two-hour workshop young artists are invited to explore the idea of texture by experimenting with surface decoration. To do this, participants will create their own abstract designs and will learn how to apply these to fabric via methods such as stitching and painting with textile pastes. Participants can add the designs they create to their own clothing or accessory.
