HAAN Makers Lounge

‘HAAN’, a local word for ‘Hand’ is a design pop up curated by Look Again that celebrates the work of independent designers and makers. Invited are a number of these local designers who will deliver a range of workshops across our school, this involves ceramics, jewellery, textile screen printing and illustration.

Our first Art Weekender will take place Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February 2023.

This workshop is an introduction to hand building with clay. During the weekend you will learn up to four different hand building techniques. Using the skills learnt you will build a final piece which can be bisque fired using the kiln in our ceramics workshop.

Looking into the origins of storytelling, this workshop will help you expand your imagination whilst being led through a process that supports you to find and create your own story. Your story will be used as the basis for making a pair of prototype story brooches.

This workshop invites you to learn the process of acid etching and enables you to experiment with the act of hammer texturing. The aim of this workshop is to design and make a copper pendant or bangle.

Learn how to design, carve and print using your own unique lino printing blocks during a workshop with Juniper Press.

This two-day workshop invites participants to explore the interior of Gray’s School of Art with the aim to discover different textures and patterns that can later be translated onto metal. The intent being to create a piece of wearable art derived from different marks sourced throughout the art school.

This two-day workshop invites participants to create a botanical inspired design with the aim to print onto a silk scarf. Throughout the weekend you will develop a basic understanding of how to prepare your own textile design for screen printing together with how to screen print using textile screens and printing ink.
