Phil Murray

Phil Murray
Phil was founder and CEO of Petrotechnics a company that started as a technology start-up in 1990.

Phil has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and spent his early career working internationally with bp in a variety of roles from field economics to petroleum engineering. During this period, Phil gained a variety of experiences, not least being unable to walk unaided for five years following a road traffic accident.

Back on his feet, he used his passion for keeping people safe and his belief in the potential of emerging computing technology to establish Petrotechnics over 25 years ago.   During this time Petrotechnics has developed a number of innovative software products and grown successfully, having won awards for most areas of the business, including Scottish Software Product of the Year and Growth Strategy of the Year at the European Business Awards. Petrotechnics was acquired by Sphera the largest global risk management software company in 2018.

Phil has also run a university spin-out in the USA and has a real enthusiasm for developing productive links between business and education from partnering Kirkhill, a local Primary school, to research collaboration with universities.

Phil  invests in and advises a number of start-up and emerging technology companies.

Phil is married to Debbie, has three children and still plays geriatric rugby despite the aging implants.
