Board of Governors

Phil Murray

Phil is founder and CEO of Petrotechnics a company that started as a technology start-up in 1990. He has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering.

Phil spent his early career working internationally with BP in a variety of roles from field economics to petroleum engineering. During this period, Phil gained a wide range of experience, not least being unable to walk unaided for five years following a road traffic accident.

Back on his feet, he used his passion for keeping people safe and his belief in the potential of emerging computing technology to establish Petrotechnics over 25 years ago. During this time Petrotechnics has developed a number of innovative software products and grown successfully, having won awards for most areas of the business, including Scottish Software Product of the Year and Growth Strategy of the Year at the European Business Awards. Having pioneered the Integrated Safe System of Work in the 2000's, the majority of the upstream oil industry still relies on the company's technology to manage the safety of day to day operations. Petrotechnics latest product, Proscient, is an Operational Excellence platform that enables everyone to make better operational decisions and is designed to meet a growing and urgent need in hazardous industries.

Phil has also run a university spin-out in the USA and has a real enthusiasm for developing productive links between business and education from partnering Kirkhill, a local Primary school, to research collaboration with universities.

Phil is married to Debbie has three children and still plays geriatric rugby despite the aging implants.
