First Contact Practitioner Role Development

This short course aims to provide you with an understanding and awareness of the role of First Contact Practitioner within your own professional practice.

We will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be able to critique the definitions and components of FCP in health and social care. You will learn to appraise the challenges and opportunities of FCP within your own professional practice.

This course will be delivered online, utilising a mix of workshops and tutorials.

It will be delivered over 6 weeks with six further weeks to prepare the assessment required for completion.

Learning Methods

This course will be delivered online using the University’s virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle. There will be a short online induction and introduction session followed by a structured timetable of topic content. Theoretical work will be student-led with a problem-based learning approach to guide learning.

Each topic will include online tutorials and workshops and activities such as case studies, presentations, group breakout activities and discussion forums, which you can study at your own time and at your own pace. You are expected to interact in the online environment with your class mates and tutors.

Activity Summary

• Tutorials - 10 students per group, 4 hours per week
• Independent Study - 276 hours per semester

Independent Study

This course is completed through online independent study. It is expected that you will spend a minimum of 250 hours study over the 12 weeks of the module, including the preparation and submission of your written assessment. Your academic tutor will be there to support you through the module.

Assessment

Typically, students are assessed via written assignment involving critical discussion relating to an area of advanced practice or clinical case.

Academic Support

The Inclusion Centre advises and supports students who disclose a sensory or mobility impairment, chronic medical condition, mental health issue, dyslexia and other specific learning differences. Applicants are encouraged to arrange a pre-entry visit to discuss any concerns and to view the facilities.
