ACCESS RGU

Schools Engagement Programmes

ACCESS RGU works in partnership with various schools across Scotland, to provide a range of engagement programmes throughout the year. These programmes aim to support the transition from school to university.

RGU’s ‘Access To’ and ‘ACES’ programmes run from August 2023 until December 2023.

Access To Programme

Access To is a programme for S5/S6 pupils. For students in S6 the programme will be running from week commencing 28 August 2023 on campus. Applications for S6 pupils are currently closed.

For S5 students the programme will be running for 5 weeks starting on 6 November 2023 on campus.

The Access To programme offers subject-focused sessions and support sessions, delivered by RGU’s academic teaching staff and the Widening Access Team.

Subject Areas

Access To provides pupils interested in studying the following subject areas with a practical insight to the subject areas:

Business Management

Are you entrepreneurial and interested in business connected learning? Do you enjoy a challenge and team competition?

Journalism & Media

Are you interested in finding out more about the fast-paced, exciting media industry? Would you like to know more about careers in journalism and the media?

Computing

Are you interested in software design and development? Do you want to learn about cyber security and digital painting?

Engineering

Are you interested in power generation and the design, construction and operation of machines? Do you want to learn more about mechanical and electrical engineering?

Health Professions

Are you caring, practical and have attention to detail? Do you enjoy working with people and as part of a team?

Law/Law & Management

Are you interested in law? Would you like to learn more about the legal profession?

Pharmacy & Life Sciences

Are you scientific, analytical and enjoy problem solving? Are you interested in finding out more about careers in Biomedical Science, Applied Bioscience, Forensic & Analytical Science or in Food, Nutrition and Human Health?

Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedic Practice

Would you like to join a profession that really makes a difference to people’s lives? Are you caring and compassionate about engaging with people and helping them throughout times of joy and sadness?

Social Sciences

Are you curious about humanity? Making a difference in peoples lives? Would you like to work and engage in a dynamic and collaborative environment?

Delivery

  • This programme will be delivered on campus and virtually.

ACES Programme

ACES is a five to six-week programme for S5/S6 pupils. For students in S6 the programme will be running from week commencing 28 August 2023 on campus for 6 weeks. For S5 students the programme will be running from week commencing 6 November 2023 on campus for 5 weeks.

Architecture

Are you interested in studying Architecture & Built Environment? Would you like to join a forward thinking and multidisciplinary school, where innovative design meets contemporary practice?

This programme will develop your creative ideas with support from architecture lecturers.

The programme is open to pupils who are passionate about architecture and who are considering making an application to:

Art & Design

Do you want to be an artist or a designer? Are you interested in studying creative courses at degree level?

This programme will provide you with an opportunity to develop your creative ideas with support from art and design lecturers. All materials are provided.

  • Each in-region course will have an on-campus offering, however spaces are limited and subject to availability, in which case you may receive a digital delivery offer instead.

Delivery (In-region courses)

  • This programme will be delivered through a combination of online and on campus sessions.
  • Sessions will take place once a week between 16:30 – 18:00 each week.

Delivery (Out of region courses)

  • Gain access to 5 pre-recorded interactive engagement sessions for you to follow in your own time, giving you a practical insight to your chosen subject area.
  • You will receive a supporting material pack to accompany the digital pre-recorded sessions.
