Meet our Sports Scholars

Jermaine Ellis

Jermain Ellis

MSc Physiotherapy Pre-registration student and Boxer from Cornwall, England.

What is your sport and position?

Boxing - 86kg weight class.

What made you pick your sport?

My family are into boxing so I have enjoyed it since I was young.

If you didn’t do your sport, what would you do and why?

Rugby because that was my previous sport I used to play along with boxing.

Why did you choose to study at RGU?

The Physiotherapy degree here is really good and I’ve never been to Scotland beforehand.

How do you think the sport scholar program will help you progress as a student athlete?

It will give me support with equipment and entry into competitions to help me towards my goals I want to achieve and will give me access to seminars to help me battle the ins and outs of being and athlete, not physically but mentally as well.

What is your greatest sporting achievement?

Winning BUCS was a big achievement because the previous year I fell short and I put in a lot of work and sacrifice into the sport.

Who is your sporting role model and why?

Mayweather as he was always consistent and that’s why he was the pound for pound best boxer.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt from your sport?

Schedule and discipline, with boxing if you’re not consistent you will fall off.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working as a qualified physio, hopefully in a career I love and still being a consistent elite boxer.

Favourite sporting memory?

Winning BUCS and training with friends.
