Meet our Sports Scholars
Alison Wood
Events Management student and Swimmer.
What is your sport and position?
Swimmer.
What made you pick your sport?
I’ve always grown up swimming and loved it. My sister also does the sport which made me more motivated to be like her.
If you didn't do your sport, what would you do and why?
Literally anything! I did football in the past and played for Ross County but I had to stop as swimming was my priority.
Why did you choose to study at RGU?
I loved the swimming side in Aberdeen and wanted to be a part of it. My course, Events Management, is very niche and RGU has a great option for it.
How do you think the sport scholar program will help you progress as a student athlete?
This programme will give me the flexibility to keep going with my swimming without falling behind on uni work.
What is your greatest sporting achievement?
Being selected by Scotland North to compete in Porto.
Who is your sporting role model and why?
My sister as she has always motivated me to keep going and beat her someday. We do the same events and I can compare my swims to hers so I can improve.
What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from your sport?
Stay consistent and the results will show.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Graduated with my Events Management degree.
Favourite sporting memory?
Being praised by my teammates, family, coaches and competitors for reaching a long term goal of a specific time.
