Reslife volunteer and student

ResLife Roles

Our ResLife teams are a crucial part of the work we do, supporting students living in RGU Accommodation and a select number of private halls.

Our Teams

Primarily, our teams work in RGU owned accommodation, supporting students throughout their journey – from moving in, to building a community, to ongoing welfare support and beyond.

ResLife teams are the backbone of Accommodation peer support for students. They are the first point of contact for students living in accommodation, and work as a team to promote an inclusive community within halls, while providing support to their fellow students. Additionally, they will be responsible for proposing and hosting comprehensive social calendar events and will work to promote the University’s support services to those students that may need them most.

We recruit ResLife Teams throughout the year, with three main recruitment drives: our term-time ResLife team (recruited annually between February – April, for the following academic year), our winter ResLife team (recruited in November/December, to cover the three week Christmas ‘vacation’ period), and the summer ResLife team (recruited in April/May, to cover the summer holiday period, from the end of May until the start of September).

Within these teams, we have a number of roles in RGU Accommodation, and we are also working with a partner, Unite Students, with whom we have community opportunities around the city.

ResLife Assistants

Traditionally, we recruit for ResLife Assistants (Residences) across RGU’s four Accommodation sites:

  • Woolmanhill Flats
  • Crathie Student Village
  • Ramsay Development
  • Garthdee Towers

We also recruit for ResLife Assistants (Community) across two of RGU’s Accommodation sites:

  • Woolmanhill Flats
  • Garthdee Towers/Ramsay Development

Voluntary Worker Status

ResLife Assistant roles attract ‘voluntary worker’ status. This means that you sign an agreement with Robert Gordon University for the role that you carry out.

Due to this status, the Residence Assistant (Residences) role would not be suitable for those with work hour limits on their Visas (for example, 20 hours). The ResLife Assistant (Community) roles, however, have a 4-5 hour a week commitment expectation, so we actively encourage students with Visa restrictions to apply for these positions to bring diversity to our team.

Due to the difference in commitment, the discounts offered on rent vary from site to site and role to role. The minimum discount you can expect is 40%.

We seek for the ResLife team to be representative of the Universities diverse population and we therefore welcome applications from all of our students.

We are currently recruiting our ResLife Team for the Academic Year 2024/25 across all RGU accommodation sites. Please read the Role Descriptors to see which role is right for you. Applications close on Sunday 24 March 2024 and are open to current students only:
