Students showcasing work at Degree Show

Tech and creativity took centre stage at this year’s annual Degree Show as final-year students from RGU’s School of Computing, Engineering and Technology (SoCET) unveiled projects that showcased innovation, technical expertise and real-world problem solving.

Held on campus over two days, the exhibition brought together students, staff, industry partners and members of the public to celebrate the achievements of undergraduate and postgraduate students across computing, engineering and technology disciplines.

From cutting-edge software applications and immersive digital experiences to sustainable engineering solutions and innovative product designs, the exhibition demonstrated the breadth of talent emerging from the school.

The Degree Show offers students an opportunity to showcase the culmination of years of study, research and hands-on development. Each project demonstrated not only academic achievement but also the practical problem-solving abilities that students have developed throughout their time at RGU.

Attendees had the chance to engage directly with exhibitors as they explained the thinking behind their work, shared the challenges they had overcome and discussed how their ideas could make a real-world impact. The event also provided an important platform for students to connect with employers and industry representatives, giving many the chance to discuss future career opportunities.

For many students, the exhibition marked both the end of their university journey and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. As they prepare to take their next steps into industry, research and entrepreneurship, the Degree Show served as a fitting celebration of their accomplishments.

Jessica Okundaye studied BEng (Hons) Electronic and Electrical Engineering. During her studies, Jessica, along with other students from RGU, won the Scottish Regional IMechE Design Challenge for two consecutive years. The exhibition demonstrated the breadth of talent emerging from the University.

“When I started at RGU, I was really shy, but the staff have been great at getting me out of my shell. I’ve also done two summer internships working as an electronics engineer, one in 2024 and one in 2025.”

Jessica’s internships have led to her gaining full-time employment with the same company, which specialises in geo-data, as a graduate electronic engineer.

“Studying engineering has been one of the best decisions of my life. It was a really difficult decision, but it’s been super rewarding. I have a job, and I enjoy what I do, and I love RGU for that.”

Isaac Eagles, who has created a 2D horror game, is graduating in Digital Media.

“I’ve learned a lot of things, to do with art, and coding as well. I created a virtual reality (VR) project last year, and I made an RPG (role-playing game) in VR.

“Since I was around 12, I’ve been making games by myself. It was only four years ago that I decided to home in on that. I’m hoping to create my own indie games in the future and publish them.”

Meanwhile, Application Software Development graduate, Nicol Buchan, has created a simulation to educate people on living with visual impairments.

“I’ve made a simulation to allow people to experience the challenges that those living with visual impairments face.

“Studying at RGU has definitely allowed me to be a bit more creative. Doing the game development modules opened my eyes to what you can do, not just games, but also for educational purposes.

“There are a lot of different routes you can go down, not every route is for you. You can try it out and see if you like it.”
