Gray’s School of Art has agreed a three-year partnership with renowned gallery Hauser & Wirth to significantly strengthen the impact of the Mobile Art School with the delivery of free workshops to communities across the North East of Scotland.

Commencing 12 March, the Mobile Art School will join forces with Hauser & Wirth artist Thomas J Price to visit Braemar Primary School at St. Margarets Church and Braemar Kirk to launch the 2026 program.

The Mobile Art School is an outreach project aimed at connecting and empowering communities across Aberdeen and beyond, to improve awareness and understanding of the creative industries. This new partnership will allow the team at Gray’s School of Art to extend their reach and incorporate practicing artists into high impact workshops alongside the university faculty, students and recent graduates. Participants will be given the opportunity to experience and explore the personal and social enrichment that creative learning presents – not just within arts careers but as a powerful, transformative and essential part of everyday life.

Daniel Sutherland, Associate Dean for Economic, Social and Cultural Development at Gray’s School of Art, said: “This three-year partnership with Hauser & Wirth is incredibly exciting. It gives Gray’s School of Art an opportunity to take our practices outside their traditional settings and into the communities on our doorstep. We hope the Mobile Art School activities will be transformational as we look to inspire the next generation of creatives beyond London and across the UK.”

Debbie Hillyerd, Senior Director of Learning and Partner at Hauser & Wirth, said: "Scotland has a very special place in our founders’ hearts, and we couldn’t be happier to work alongside Gray’s School of Art to expand on the Mobile Art School initiative. Each of our Learning partnerships is focused on increasing access, support and expertise for professional development within the arts, as well as unlocking the transformative power of art for all. The Mobile Art School is already so brilliantly achieving this, and we hope to further develop the program alongside our artists to sustain long-term meaningful impact for broader communities.”

Taking expertise and resources outside the walls of Gray’s School of Art, the custom-built Mobile Art School vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art creative tools including: 10 Oculus Quests (VR headsets), Laser Cutting, 3D Printing / 3D Scanning, Mobile Dark Room, CNC Routing, Vinyl Cutting, Vacuum Forming, Interactive Electronics (Littlebits), Clay Modelling Tools, Raku Kiln, Screen Printing facilities, Intaglio/Etching Press, Model Making (hot wire cutting and hand tools), Inflatable Project Facilities and Jewellery Casting Facilities.
