Her Majesty the Queen 1926 - 2022

Thursday 08 September 2022

Queen Elizabeth
It is a time of great sadness as we mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As a University community we join the nation in paying our respects as the country reflects on her reign as Monarch. We have extended our deepest condolences to His Majesty and the Royal family during this time of sorrow.

The Queen’s dedication to public service throughout years of significant change will remain an inspiration for generations to come.

Her Majesty greatly admired our local area of Grampian and spent a significant amount of time in her Balmoral residence, appreciating its beauty and the people of the North East of Scotland. This admiration was shared by many, and her presence will be sorely missed.

On several occasions, we have been honoured to have been visited on-campus by the Royal family in years past. Most recently, our Streetsport initiative was recognised with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and in 2018 Prince Harry visited campus to meet the Streetsport team.

We will continue to respect the national mourning period, and will close the University on Monday 19 September 2022 to mark the state funeral, and commemorate the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The national two minutes silence at 12 noon on Monday 19th September will be observed across the University campus.

As this date coincides with the start of the new academic session, essential services will be kept open to minimise the impact on students who are arriving or returning to RGU. Further information about local arrangements have been communicated separately.
