A new digital art collection, ’30.03, spring’ has been created by students from the Robert Gordon University to celebrate the work of Vincent Van Gogh.

'30.03, spring' features a set of digital illustrations that explore Vincent Van Gogh’s artistic legacy, love for nature and creative process.

This unique digital magazine has been created by a group of student illustrators from Gray’s School of Art who made the set of designs to show how Van Gogh’s art has inspired and influenced young artists.

Communication Design student, Anca Tomescu who co-ordinated the project said: “The idea for ’30.03 Spring’ stemmed from my lifelong admiration for Van Gogh’s work, an artist that is very dear to me.  I wanted to explore the many ways in which his intriguing mind and style have influenced young creatives.

“We initially planned to publish the work online on Van Gogh's birthday, March 30, but had to delay until May due to my positive Covid-19 test and recovery period.  I really hope others can enjoy this digital magazine or ‘zine’ to see for themselves this special set of illustrations.”

Gray’s Communication’s Design Art Lecturer, Nicola Watson, who supported the project said: “This exciting project has been a great way to put the spotlight on Vincent Van Gogh’s work. It is fantastic that the students have worked together to produce this vibrant magazine. The fact that their illustrations are displayed digitally online, allows for a wider audience to have access to the work.”

“Gray’s School of Art is committed to equipping our students with the digital skills necessary to succeed in their future working environments and this online magazine, ’30.03 Spring’, uses some of those digital technologies to showcase our student’s work.”

Illustration is just one of many specialities that students studying a BA in Communication Design at Gray’s School of Art can study. Other honours degree awards are available in Graphic Design and Photography.
