RGU Alumna Dr Alla El-Awaisi wins British Council Alumni award

RGU Alumna Dr Alla El-Awaisi has been awarded the Professional Achievement Award at the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards in Doha.

This award recognises alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership within their professional field and Dr Alla’s MSc in Prescribing Science, followed by her PhD in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, both from RGU, have had significant impact in promoting ‘interprofessionalism’ in Qatar.

Her research led to many successful Interprofessional Education (IPE) initiatives nationally and internationally, including successfully leading a winning bid to bring the All Together Better Health Conference to the Middle East for the first time in October 2020.

Reflecting on her time at RGU, Dr Alla comments: “My best memories of my time at RGU are of my great supervisory team Professor Lesley Diack and Dr Sundari Joseph who instilled great confidence in myself and my research. I am greatly indebted to their unstinting support, constructive critique, contagious enthusiasm, and invaluable guidance throughout this research. I am truly fortunate and privileged to have worked under their indispensable guidance and expertise and consider them as colleagues and friends.”

Professor Lesley Diack added: “Alla is a dedicated and inspirational leader whose work on Interprofessional Education has changed and developed collaborative practice in the Gulf area, especially Qatar. She is also the guiding light behind the Global All Together Better Health conference in 2020 in Qatar.”

Dr Alla is the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Qatar University College of Pharmacy where she provides guidance and leadership to enhance students’ learning experience. Since 2014 she has also been the Chair of the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee.

The Alumni Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries.
