Graham Hunter - Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Graham Hunter
European football journalist and award-winning author, Graham Hunter, has been recognised with an honorary degree from Robert Gordon University (RGU).

Globally renowned for his knowledge of Spanish football, Graham received a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University this week for his contribution to sports journalism.

With a career spanning 20 years, Graham has written for newspapers and websites worldwide, including Sky Sports Spanish Football, the Scottish Mail on Sunday, ESPN and BBC Radio.

He is the author of the award-winning book ‘Barca’ which follows the making of FC Barcelona, and has now released a series of podcast interviews with some of the biggest names in British football.

Graham first fell in love with Spanish football when he followed Scotland to the 1982 World Cup. During the 1990s he often travelled back to report on La Liga, before leaving Fleet Street in 2002 to follow his dream of working as a sports journalist in Spain.

While spending the last 20 years reporting on Spanish football, Graham has never lost his connection with Scotland and continues to be an avid fan of Aberdeen FC, frequently visiting the club and supporting it through a close affiliation.

Professor Steve Olivier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of RGU, comments: “Graham has made a significant contribution to not only sports journalism but to raising the profile of Spanish football worldwide throughout the last 20 years.

“His passion for Spanish football is truly inspiring and he has dedicated his highly successful media career to fostering relationships with leading footballers and clubs to take his reporting on Spain’s golden age of football to the global stage – all while remaining true to his roots by continuing to be a vocal supporter of Aberdeen FC.”
