Academic Quality and Learning Enhancement

By offering a coherent approach to quality and enhancement in accordance with Scotland’s enhancement-led approach to higher education and in support of  the University’s strategy, we provide students with an excellent experience that will enable them to raise their aspirations and thrive in their professional careers as global citizens.

AQLE colleagues work closely with staff across the University to support the development, delivery, and enhancement of the RGU student experience through:

• offering academic practice guidance and development opportunities for staff
• championing educational research and scholarship
• providing detailed operational advice on policy, regulations, procedures and standards, and ensuring a continuous improvement approach to quality assurance
• enabling and supporting innovation in learning, teaching, and assessment
• serving as a focal point for the coordination and implementation of institutional teaching, learning and assessment enhancement projects in partnership with RGU’s community
• supporting excellence in digital learning and the development digital skills
• supporting curriculum delivery through the production of timetables for the best possible student and staff experience

Our Teams

AQLE comprises four teams: Academic Development, Academic Quality, Digital Learning, and Timetabling.

Academic Development

The Academic Development Team work with academic and professional services staff across RGU to support effective teaching and learning by enabling colleagues to develop academic practice, share their knowledge and insights, and to achieve professional recognition. The team offer training for new staff to fulfil probationary and progression requirements; credit-rated and experiential staff development which enables colleagues to achieve UK Professional Standards Framework recognition; continuing professional development for all colleagues in support of institutional priorities; bespoke staff development to support School enhancement plans; support for curriculum design, development and innovation; and professional development & events for colleagues interested in educational research and scholarship. 

Academic Quality

The Academic Quality Team is responsible for leading, promoting, and enhancing the University’s approach to academic governance, quality assurance and standards.  Taking a continuous improvement approach, the team support staff to apply Academic Regulations effectively and consistently; provide advice and guidance on course development and approval; coordinate the University’s programme of internal and external quality reviews; support the University’s various committees relevant to quality assurance and enhancement; and are the focal point of institutional liaison with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

Digital Learning Team

The Digital Learning Team are responsible for supporting effective digital learning across the university by providing staff and student support. The team is responsible for the management and enhancement of the university’s VLE, CampusMoodle; supporting the effective use of the VLE and associated educational technologies; supporting the development of digital skills; and the co-ordination of institutional enhancement projects related to Digital Learning.

Timetabling Team

The Timetabling Team work with academic and professional services staff across RGU to support an excellent student experience through effective timetabling of classes, learning activities, and examinations.  Timetabling is carried out with a commitment to providing high-quality timetables which support students to be successful.
