What happens when real‑world learning meets global opportunity? This RGU graduate’s story reveals just that.

Do you remember your first day at RGU?

Yes, very clearly. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Moving to a new country and starting a Master’s degree was a big step. What stood out immediately was how welcoming and organised everything felt. The campus environment and the openness of both staff and fellow students helped me settle in much faster than I expected.

How would you describe the learning environment and support you experienced?

The learning environment at RGU was supportive and industry focused. Lecturers were approachable and genuinely invested in students’ progress. I appreciated the balance between academic theory and real-world application, as well as the encouragement to think critically and independently. The academic support services also played an important role in making the experience smooth and positive.

Did you take part in any placements, internships, or industry projects during your studies?

I was actively involved in a number of practical group projects as part of my course, which allowed me to collaborate with classmates from diverse backgrounds. These projects strengthened my teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

Alongside my studies, I worked as a Student Ambassador at RGU and as a Safety Steward at Aberdeen FC. Both roles were incredibly valuable. As a Student Ambassador, I developed confidence in public speaking and representing the University to students and visitors. Working at Aberdeen FC enhanced my sense of responsibility, teamwork and ability to remain calm under pressure in fast-paced environments. Together, these experiences complemented my academic learning and contributed significantly to my personal and professional development.

In what ways did your course prepare you for your career?

My course prepared me very well, especially in terms of analytical thinking, problem-solving and professional communication. Beyond technical knowledge, I developed confidence in presenting ideas, managing projects and working in multicultural teams - all of which are essential in my career today.

Tell us about your current role and what a typical day looks like.

I currently work as a Technical Director at CloudFin, a Greek evolving FinTech company. A typical day involves collaborating with teams, creating innovative software products, managing projects, meeting clients and developing strategies. What I enjoy most about my role is teamwork and impact on real-life problems for many people. The role is dynamic and constantly evolving, which keeps it both challenging and rewarding.

What’s one thing you learned at RGU that still shapes your life or work today?

One of the most important things I learned at RGU was how to approach challenges with a structured and critical mindset. Rather than looking for quick answers, I learned to analyse problems from multiple perspectives and base decisions on evidence. That mindset continues to guide both my professional work and personal growth.

What’s a career moment you’ll never forget?

One career moment I’ll never forget was my first job offer from Accenture following the completion of my studies and upon repatriation to Greece. It was a defining moment because it reflected the skills and confidence I developed during my time at RGU and marked a significant step forward in my career journey.

What one piece of advice would you give to an RGU student today?

Make the most of your time - both inside and outside the classroom. Engage with your lecturers, participate in projects, build relationships with classmates and step outside your comfort zone. Your time at university goes by quickly, but the connections, skills and experiences you gain can shape your career in ways you may not immediately realise.
