Chair of the Board of Governors - Election

The election of the Chair of the Board of Governors took place on 24-28 February 2020. After application and interview, three candidates were presented to the electorate, with the Position being effective from 1 April 2020.

The Board of Governors

RGU's Board of Governors is responsible for the overall strategic direction and governance of the University. It consists of appointed lay governors from a diverse range of industries and backgrounds alongside elected staff and student governors and nominated Trade Union governors. Together, they provide strategic guidance to the University’s mission of contributing to economic, social and cultural development through the impact of our demand-led, educational and research agenda. The Chair leads the Board of Governors and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the vision and ethos of RGU are underpinned by strong and effective leadership and good governance.


Election & Process

The Board of Governors Elections took place in the week of 24-28 February 2020 with an open meeting for the all of the electorate taking place on 28 February at 10am in the Sir Ian Wood Building.

Result

Colin Hunter - 265 votes - elected
Lynne Clow - 240 votes
Neil Bruce - 169 votes

Turnout: 5.45%

Successful Candidate 

Colin Hunter OBE

Chair-Candidate-Colin-Hunter-DTD8311I have been a local GP for 33 years and am currently Governor and Vice-Chair at RGU. I have extensive experience as Governor/Trustee in a number of charities including Leonard Cheshire Disability, Drinkaware and St Margaret’s Arts Trust, Braemar. I strongly want to further enhance the student experience and support our excellent teaching staff.

  • Excellent and effective leadership record.
  • Significant Scottish and UK roles with Royal College of GPs.
  • Strong chairing skills.
  • A passion for and teaching experience in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional education.
