Global Accessibility Awareness Day at RGU

By Vicky Florence - 05 May 2023

Imagine trying to do your day-to-day work, but the documents you need are unreadable, your emails don’t display properly and the systems you are using are making no sense. That is how life can be for some groups in our RGU community when we don’t factor in accessibility from the get-go.

The purpose of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on the 18th May 2023 is to increase awareness of digital access and inclusion. Every student deserves a digital experience that allows them to experience web-based services, content, and other digital products with the same successful outcome.

Suzanna Bamigbola, President (Communication & Democracy) shares:

"As we move towards an increasingly digital world it is highly important that everyone is given equal opportunities to digital access. Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) shines a light on the need for digital access and inclusion for everyone."

From Monday 15th May to Thursday 18th May, a series of sessions will be available from the Inclusion Centre and DELTA focusing on raising awareness and providing guidance on the importance of accessibility and how best to support our students, culminating in a 24-hour fixation where we can all be part of the solution. Find out more about the events below and sign up to get involved.

How to apply Universal Design for Learning in practice

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimise teaching and learning for everyone, based on scientific insights into how people learn. This session will introduce the UDL guidelines which can be applied to any subject area to enhance access and participation in learning.
