This course is designed for Engineers with some relevant offshore oil and gas experience, and high-calibre graduates who wish to enhance their employability in the subsea industry.

The course has been developed and is supported by experienced oil and gas industry professionals and academics using current standards and fundamental engineering practices. It is designed to deliver graduates who can enhance their expertise and performance in the subsea engineering arena, today and in the future.

Stage 1

In Stage 1, you will study topics such as Oceans and Operability, Wells, Facilities and Subsea Systems. On completion, you could exit this stage with a Pg Cert in Subsea Engineering.

STAGE 2

In Stage 2 you will study; Subsea Pipeline & Riser Design, Subsea Systems Reliability & Risks, Subsea Control Systems and Materials & Corrosion. On completion you could exit this stage with Pg Dip Subsea Engineering.

 

STAGE 3

Stage 3 is the final stage, where you will focus on the Individual Project Report. Successful completion will award the MSc Subsea Engineering.

 
Detailed module information
Activity Summary

Each module comprises up to 52 hours of lectures and tutorials. Significant additional private study is expected during each module. The curriculum is designed to develop your subject knowledge and understanding, intellectual and thinking ability and practical and key transferable skills at Master’s level.

  • Lectures: 23 hours per module
  • Project supervision: 600 hours
  • Independent study 127 hours per semester
Independent Study

You’ll work autonomously and take responsibility for your own learning and professional and academic development. The suggested hours-of-study-per-week and other information is detailed in each Module Descriptor. For ODL students, each topic is web-based and open-learning materials are available via CampusMoodle which forms a key platform for the student/tutor relationship.

JOB PROSPECTS

Graduates of this course find work in a wide-range of roles including Subsea Engineer and Subsea Project Manager. Employers include oil operation and production companies, especially large international oil companies, although some are smaller and less well-known, engineering consultancies and integrated service providers, which provide staff in varied disciplines

CAREERS

 
 
  • Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in Engineering or a relevant discipline such as Geology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics.
  • Applicants with a lower degree classification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.
