Commercial Value Creation 15 Credits at SCQF level 11
One of a set of 9 competency-led topics that have been designed in close collaboration with industry practitioners and incorporate real world case studies and scenarios.

This module covers the full range of topics in the pre−contract process, from developing the business case for market testing through to managing the bidding and market test process.

You will learn how to use purchase price cost analysis (PPCA) methodologies along with how to select suppliers for market testing (including use of available technology and industry data bases), competitive forces analysis and power positioning analysis.

  • Critically evaluate the requirements for value creation in the energy sectors
  • Propose and develop the business case for market testing within a commercial environment
  • Analyse and apply commercial value creation techniques within the energy sectors

Learning will take place through the University online virtual learning environment (VLE), Campus Moodle, with a mix of online lectures, tutorials and self-guided study. Each topic within the Module will have a number of obligatory activities aimed at emphasising the learning. You are also required to contribute to a number of discussion forums on particular subject matter and case studies.

Assessment

The module will be assessed by one main piece of coursework and a number of specified activities.

Study Skills Support

At the end of this module you will have a broad knowledge and understanding of the energy sectors. You could progress to other modules within the commercial practice course to gain additional credits towards the full MSc. This will give you the qualification to work within the energy sector as a commercial manager and other fields with the energy sector.

Relevant industry experience and/or a good honours degree.
