Time to get our young artists creative!

Know a young artist who would love to join our programme? Gray's School of Art offers an exciting and engaging series of Young Artist Workshops for 5-16 year olds.

Delivered over one 8 week term, Young Artists will be able to take part of an exciting new programme in the visual arts, supported by two experienced professional Gray's School of Art members of staff.

An exciting opportunity to expand the minds and practical skills of young artists. This course will develop ability and build confidence in the personal creative expression - in a professional, safe, fun and inspiring environment. Our workshops will support young art enthusiasts to explore a variety of subjects:

  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • Painting
  • Mixed Media
  • Sculpture
  • Jewellery
  • Claywork
  • Sketchbooks

All Young Artists will receive a sketchbook to develop their ideas in.

Please note: these classes will not take place in Gray’s School of Art itself but further down the RGU campus in the Sir Ian Wood Building. Parents/guardians of young artists must attend the first half an hour of our first class in order to complete our health and safety induction documents. Classes age groups may be amalgamated.

Methods of delivery include: demonstrations, individual/group discussion and learning and lots of fun workshop-based practice.

Young Artists are taught by specialist staff who will offer practical advice and instruction together with personal encouragement in discovering individual creative skills.

Young Artists will receive general instruction and one-to-one tuition tailored to suit their personal level of experience and ability.

Parents will be informed of our complete health and safety induction information and be provided with a week by week breakdown of the class activity on commencement of the course.


This course is not formally assessed. 




Students are encouraged to inform us at the time of enrolment of information relating to a disability, medical condition or specific learning difficulty. 

The Disability & Dyslexia Centre advises and supports students who disclose a sensory or mobility impairment, chronic medical condition, mental health issue, dyslexia and other specific learning differences. Applicants with profound physical or sensory disabilities are encouraged to arrange a pre-entry visit to discuss any concerns and to view the facilities.


The Study Support Team provides training and support to all students in academic writing, study skills, maths and statistics, English language and information technology.




This course is perfect for 8-10 year olds.

Our Young Artist Workshops cater for children between the ages of 8 - 16yrs.

Please dress in clothes you can get messy in. We recommend you bring a light snack and drink.

We'll provide all the materials required.


A refund is only applicable where there has been illness with a medical certificate to support it.

Gray's Art Shop

Located within the Gray’s building, the Art Shop stocks a wide range of specialist materials, papers and equipment for all kinds of creative ventures. Open to all, both student and non-student, with very competitive prices, the staff are on hand and happy to help. Open between 9am-3.30pm Monday to Friday and a selection of dates over each term to accommodate the Short Course students.

Staff appreciate many Short Course students are busy through the day, so they are happy to take phone orders that can be collected from reception at a later/more convenient time for students.


For new intakes course fees are reviewed and published annually for each mode of delivery. Tuition fees are fixed for the duration of a course at the rate confirmed in the offer letter.  For further information see:
