Learn the colourful art of printed textiles with an experienced lecturer on hand to guide you.

An exciting opportunity to design and print your very own individual printed textiles design project.

This course will teach students the fundamental techniques, hints and tips on how to create printed textiles. It will support more experienced printed textile students with continuous development of their design skills and printing techniques..

You will design, print and assemble your project. Outcomes will include interior, fashion and textiles art. You will:

  • Explore and research printed textile designers to influence your designs.
  • Learn to prepare designs on acetate and screens.
  • See demonstrations in techniques using pigment and binder expose screens.
  • Practice techniques in discharge printing and puff binder.

On this course you will not only be able to access the excellent facilities of our printed textiles workshop but go away at the end having developed your own unique designs on a finished product.

Our experienced tutor will give demonstrations and guidance on everything you need to know to design, develop and finalise your project.

Methods of delivery include: demonstrations, individual/group discussion and studio-based practice.

You are taught by specialist staff who will offer practical advice and instruction together with personal encouragement in discovering individual creative skills.

You will receive general instruction and one-to-one tuition tailored to suit your personal level of experience and ability.   

A complete health and safety induction will take place on commencement of the course. Please wear old clothes. Rubber gloves and disposable aprons will be provided.


This course is not formally assessed. 




Students are encouraged to inform us at the time of enrolment of information relating to a disability, medical condition or specific learning difficulty. 

The Disability & Dyslexia Centre advises and supports students who disclose a sensory or mobility impairment, chronic medical condition, mental health issue, dyslexia and other specific learning differences. Applicants with profound physical or sensory disabilities are encouraged to arrange a pre-entry visit to discuss any concerns and to view the facilities.


The Study Support Team provides training and support to all students in academic writing, study skills, maths and statistics, English language and information technology.




Tailored to the you. This course is open to participants wishing to revisit or maintain their printed textiles practice or for beginners seeking advice and improvement.

This course will also be of interest to portfolio builders, existing students and practicing artists wishing to further develop their skills with a concentrated period of study. Tuition will be tailored to participants on an individual basis.

Required Age

All students are required to be at least 16 years of age on the commencement of course.



Course fee: £345 (includes all printing materials)

Materials & Equipment

You are welcome to bring your own artwork to use as inspiration for print designs and a sketchbook to develop ideas.

We have some fabrics but you may want to bring in your own items to practice print on (t-shirt, cushions etc).

Students will access the printed textiles workshop facilities.such as printing screens.  All materials, fabrics and printing inks are provided

Please wear old clothes.


A refund is only applicable where there has been illness with a medical certificate to support it.


Gray's Art Shop

Located within the Gray’s building, the Art Shop stocks a wide range of specialist materials, papers and equipment for all kinds of creative ventures. Open to all, both student and non-student, with very competitive prices, the staff are on hand and happy to help. Open between 9am-3.30pm Monday to Friday and a selection of dates over each term to accommodate the Short Course students.

Staff appreciate many Short Course students are busy through the day, so they are happy to take phone orders that can be collected from reception at a later/more convenient time for students.


For new intakes course fees are reviewed and published annually for each mode of delivery. Tuition fees are fixed for the duration of a course at the rate confirmed in the offer letter.  For further information see:
