This clinic provides a professional physiotherapy service offering a comprehensive range of therapies and treatments to business organisations to allow their workforce to get back on track after injury or illness and to rehabilitate them back to work fitness.

We can also advise businesses on ways to ensure a healthier and safer working environment with onsite ergonomic assessment and functional capacity evaluation. 

Easy to find within RGU SPORT at our Garthdee campus, the clinic has access to the expertise and ground-breaking facilities within RGU’s Human Performance Laboratory and is fully supported by a sports medicine GP, sports scientists, sports masseuses, strength and conditioning advisors and sports psychologists, so you can be assured of a quality, professional service whatever your needs.

Treatments

Your first visit will consist of a thorough assessment to identify your problem followed by development of an agreed treatment plan, This ensures that you receive the appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. Your subsequent visits will focus on a holistic approach to treatment and rehabilitation, helping you to help yourself.

We will liaise closely with your General Practitioner and, if necessary, help you to arrange onward referral to relevant specialists and professionals including imaging such as MRI or ultrasound scanning.

If necessary, we can arrange to carry out a home visit or site visit to your workplace. We will work closely with your healthcare provider or insurer to provide you with the help and treatment you need, when you need it.

We offer businesses a comprehensive range of therapies and treatments allowing your workforce to get back on track after injury or illness.

The Physiotherapy clinic also aims to prevent work-place injury by work force screening, work based ergonomic assessment and preventative prehabilitation.

Our Service

We provide a prompt flexible service which aims to give a professional assessment of injury and a diagnosis before creating a client and business focussed management programme to get the individual back to work. Our ethos is twofold;  firstly, being to provide a professional end to end service where we will be with you every step of the way and secondly, to help clients and businesses to help themselves. We will work closely with your businesses’ occupational health department and health care providers to provide the best care possible for your employees.  We will liaise with the client’s General Practitioner and arrange onward referral to relevant specialists and diagnostic services such as MRI and Ultrasound. If necessary, we can provide services at your place of work or within the client’s home.

Our Team

Our service is staffed by a team of highly qualified healthcare professionals with extensive experience in the management, treatment and rehabilitation of musculo-skeletal problems and sports injuries.

Nicholas Summersgill

Nick initially trained as a Remedial Gymnast at Pinderfields College qualifying in 1983 and became a Physiotherapist on amalgamation of the professions in 1985.

He has worked extensively in the public and private sector as a clinician, manager and teacher. Nick taught at RGU from 1990-1997 before moving onto a career in professional sport and private practice. His primary interests are musculo-skeletal medicine, rehabilitation and ergonomics.

Muriel Nelson

Muriel qualified as a Physiotherapist from the Grampian School of Physiotherapy in 1983.

She has worked in Musculoskeletal outpatients in the NHS, in Sports medicine clinics and is currently working as an Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist in Aberdeenshire. Muriel works with Ellon Rugby Club and is also a Fellow of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine.

Marcus Quarmby

Marcus is a recent addition to the RGU Physiotherapy team.

He completed his BSc (Hons) degree at Leeds Metropolitan University where he gained experience with high performance athletes and football and rugby teams. Marcus is closely involved with the physiotherapy management of RGU’s injured talented athletes and scholars.
