Local family support charity Home-Start Aberdeen has collaborated with third year media students from Robert Gordon University (RGU) to promote volunteer recruitment.
The students have created a special film which the charity is launching this week to coincide with Volunteers’ Week 2016, which runs from June, 1 to June, 12.
The film aims to help raise awareness of the charity and its need to recruit new home visiting volunteers.
Georgette Cobban, scheme manager at Home-Start Aberdeen, says: “We work with around 180 families per year across the city but there is still a waiting list of local families who desperately need our support.
“Volunteer recruitment is a priority for us and we felt that a video featuring some of our existing volunteers might encourage others to come forward.”
Home-Start Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s largest home-start schemes, providing up to 180 families and 270 children with 27,500 hours of emotional and practical support in their own north east homes each year.
The film project was a result of the charity’s engagement with Talent Exchange, a unique work experience scheme at RGU which offers flexible solutions to businesses including one-off challenges, short-term projects and placements of varying length.
Georgette continues: “As a charity we have limited resources so the opportunity to partner with local media students to create the film was very appealing.
“The students were very self-sufficient. After spending some time getting to know the organisation, they arranged a series of interviews with some of our volunteers.
“We are delighted to launch the finished product to coincide with Volunteers’ Week 2016 and look forward to using the video on our website and across our social media channels on a longer-term basis.”
Hundreds of small and medium sized businesses and third sector organisations have engaged with Talent Exchange which allows students to put their learning into action in valuable work opportunities. The project has already worked with over 200 organisations from across 25 different sectors.
