RGU kicks off inaugural marine industries summer school with Kobe City

RGU recently deepened its relations in Japan by signing agreements with Kobe City Government and the Marine Sciences School of Kobe University, which will see them collaborate in areas relating to marine industries

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kobe University and a Statement of Intent with Kobe City Government were signed and the five-day ocean industry summer school at RGU was also announced.

The group will spend their week in the North-east studying modules on marine engineering, oil and gas, and offshore renewables, all led by RGU staff.

As part of the summer school, the group will also enjoy learning a little about the history and culture of the area.

RGU Principal, Professor John Harper, commented: “As Kobe City looks to further develop itself as a hub for marine industries for Japan and the Asia Pacific region, it is important they have a workforce with the relevant skills and international experience to help this to succeed.

“At RGU we have a wealth of industry experience and world-class facilities which the summer school delegates were able to benefit from.

“We hope this is the first of many similar programmes which will help to drive further development and sustainable economic growth for both our regions and builds on the close links RGU already enjoys with Japan.”
