Your University needs you! Volunteer to make a difference for new students.

Welcome Buddies

Do you want the opportunity to help our new students? Do you wish to volunteer for us and give something back to the student community? Have you got a couple of hours spare per week? Looking for ways to gain some experience, boost your CV and increase your employability?

Welcome Buddies meet with new international students online, via video chat or messenger, and assist them to settle into life at University and in Aberdeen. You should be able to commit one to two hours per week during September/early October 2024.

Azibaolanari, our Welcome Buddy of the Year 2022/23 describes her experience:

“The experience for me was a process. Through this process, you make a difference in the lives of people, share experiences and learn from others, develop new skills and knowledge, you’ll get a sense of fulfilment from helping others and make new friends.”

What sort of person are we looking for?

We are looking for students with:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A demonstrable knowledge of RGU as well as the City of Aberdeen
  • A genuine desire to help new students
