When 32 year-old Gregory Spencer decided he wanted to broaden his career options and complete a Masters degree at Robert Gordon University (RGU), he never expected that he would come away with not only a degree but also a wife - and that they would both go on to graduate on the same day.
Gregory will graduate from Aberdeen Business School on 6 December with an MSc in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs whilst his wife, Elizabeth Paul Spencer, graduates with an MSc in Fashion Management.
Gregory, who is from Peterhead and has lived and worked in the North-east of Scotland all of his life, met his wife Elizabeth when their classes joined for a shared module. They were quickly dubbed the class sweethearts.
Elizabeth is originally from Kerala in India where she worked as a fashion designer for many years before deciding to move from design to management by completing her MSc in Fashion Management at RGU.
Gregory comments: “I enjoyed my course greatly but even more so when I met Elizabeth. I never thought when I began my degree that I would come away having met my future wife. Graduation day will be all the more special having my wife by my side.”
Elizabeth is a faculty officer at RGU and president and founder of the RGU Fashion Society. She is also hoping to set up an entrepreneurship project that will re-invigorate Scottish textiles along the same lines as Indian hand loom manufacture.
The couple married on Elizabeth’s birthday on 20 October this year at the Old Parish Church in Peterhead.
Elizabeth added: “The day was perfect. We were surrounded by our friends and family, including my parents who came from India to an autumnal Scotland to meet their new son-in-law. They stayed to tour the country for a while including indulging their passion for golf at St Andrews Old Course before returning to India.”
