Christmas comes every day for health visitor Yvonne

An Aberdeen health visitor has gained new skills after completing a two-year postgraduate course at Robert Gordon University (RGU).

Yvonne Robb with her husband Paul and their three sons Craig (14), Nathan (11) and Scott (8).Yvonne Robb (39) graduated with a BN (Hons) Community Nursing degree at a ceremony at Aberdeen Music Hall on Tuesday, December 9.

Originally from Inverness, Yvonne moved to Aberdeen to study Paediatric nursing at RGU in 1994.

After gaining her first qualification, the former Inverness Royal Academy pupil worked at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital before taking a career break to have her third son.

In 2010, Yvonne joined NHS Grampian’s community team, fulfilling a life-long ambition to be a Health Visitor. Two years later she began her postgraduate studies at RGU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery to enhance her skills.

Yvonne, who works part-time at the Oldmachar Practice at Jesmond, was joined at her graduation ceremony by her husband Paul and their three sons Craig (14), Nathan (11) and Scott (8).

She said: “Graduating from RGU is a very proud achievement and I’d like to thank my family and friends for all of their support during my studies.

“The last two years have been a rollercoaster and I quickly got into swing of studying and juggling home life.

“Being a health visitor is a dream job for me and I enjoy supporting new parents in the initial stages of looking after their new baby, helping to ensure everyone’s needs are met.

“It is a special privilege for me to be able to go into family homes on day ten of the baby’s life. Every baby I see and undress to assess feels like I am unwrapping a Christmas present and I just love it.”

Adding to her success, Yvonne is also in the process of having her first article reviewed for publication in the Journal of Health Visiting.

She said: “I am especially proud to soon be able to call myself a published journal author. It’s something I never imagined would happen and I can’t wait to see it in print.

“I am embarking on a lifelong career and I enjoy working for the benefit of the families I come in contact with. I would say to anyone thinking of pursuing a career in health visiting that it is a fantastic vocation and one I would fully recommend.”
