Immediate Care of Medical Acute Surgical Emergencies 30 Credits Level 9; ECTS points 15

1. Overview

This course will equip the student with the ability to develop and synthesise the knowledge and skills necessary to manage medical and surgical emergencies; with the emphasis on chronically ill patients presenting with an acute illness.

This module will be delivered through a series of eight half study days by means of case discussion, role play, SIM man, constructive feedback and discussion of student's experiences.

2. What you will study

Course Content - Triage; history taking; clinical assessment and examination; clinical decision making; prioritising of care; management of patients with a range of acute conditions; evidence based care; inter-sectional collaborative working.

3. Entry requirements

Students should be a registered nurse/health care professional and be able to provide evidence of SCQF Level 8 learning.
