CityLab - Where the City Becomes the Classroom
|Location:||Fifth Ring, St Mary’s Court, 47-49 Huntly Street, AB10 1TH|
The CityLab! project is an interdisciplinary opportunity for students from across both Robert Gordon University (RGU) and the University of Aberdeen, to team up in mixed groups with support from project partner and mentor Aberdeen Inspired, to identify and develop a range of initiatives across the Granite City, which will have a positive student impact.
CityLab! aims to transform and innovate Aberdeen by initiating and supporting student led solutions for citywide change. Previous CityLab! projects have resulted in new business proposals and a successful business start-up. Example projects include working with social enterprise cFINE on a food upcycling and redistribution platform and successfully selling three ‘Soofa’ interactive benches to Aberdeen City Council which were placed both in city centre and on campus locations.
This 9-week collaborative project will take place throughout Semester 2 on Wednesday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm at Fifth Ring city centre offices.
RGU and University of Aberdeen will provide academic support so that students gain the transferable skills for dealing with clients and prototyping ideas needed to complete the project. We expect that students will do a maximum of 4 hours of work a week on the project, and that given the diversity of the possible projects there will be minimal coursework and no exam.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop team skills, reflect on your personal and professional development through a practical learning experience and extend your professional network whilst gaining business mentoring skills. In addition, RGU students who undertake the CityLab! project will gain a credit for this project by means of an associated Extra–Curricular Module.
Students from any discipline can get involved, if you are interested please contact Jon Pengelly to register.
