Professional Engineering Degree
Study online for an MSc in Engineering. Designed for Engineers working in the Energy Industry, the Professional Engineering Programme aims to broaden and deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of a variety of engineering-based facets of the industry and to support their career development and progression.
The programme is flexible with regards to module choice, allowing selection from a range of topics from the School of Engineering.
Students are able to take modules for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes or to accumulate credits towards an exit or final award. Three awards are available within the Professional Engineering Programme:
- Master of Science Engineering (8 modules plus a project)
- Postgraduate Diploma Engineering (8 modules)
- Postgraduate Certificate Engineering (4 modules)
This programme has been designed to encourage a variety of applicants who wish to further their career through CPD, gain a wider appreciation of other disciplines or gain accreditation to a professional body as part of a further learning plan.
Applicants may be:
- A qualified Engineer who is undecided on which Engineering MSc discipline to choose, may undertake a number of modules to inform their choice while still working towards an MSc,
- A qualified Engineer who would like to take a number of modules from different Engineering MSc courses,
- Companies seeking a tailored set of modules to suit the training needs of their employees.
2. What you will study
The Professional Engineering Programme allows you to apply for any module* in our wide selection of distance learning degrees, offered by the School of Engineering. Module prerequisites must be met.

3. How you will learn
Teaching is delivered through the online university virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle.
Students typically take up to 3 modules per year and each module comprises up to 60 hours of online delivery over 12 weeks of teaching. The assessment component of the module is submitted within or at the end of these 12 weeks
Significant additional private study is expected during each module.
4. Entry Requirements
Each module has specific entry requirements, refer to the module descriptor for specific details.
Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in Engineering or a relevant discipline such as Geology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics
Applicants with a lower degree classification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis
Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.

Terms and Conditions of Admissions
The Terms and Conditions of Admission describe to applicants holding an offer of a place to study at RGU, the principal rights, duties and obligations of both the applicant and the University prior to enrolling on a course of study.
The vast majority of graduates will be in employment in the Energy Sector already. Evidence shows that there is a healthy demand for those wishing to progress higher in their careers via an MSc.

For new intakes course fees are reviewed and published annually for each mode of delivery. Tuition fees are fixed for the duration of a course at the rate confirmed in the offer letter. Students will also be liable to pay a graduation fee of £40 before receiving a University award.
