Iain is a graphic designer and photographer with over twenty-eight years’ commercial experience.

In his role of Stage 1 Coordinator, he provides both academic and pastoral support to a diverse group of students. He has also developed the curriculum, provides tutorials, carried out assessments and managed modules. He also teaches in Stage 2, 3 and 4 of the course as well.

He is also Module Coordinator for Stage 3 Design Professional Design Studies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Stage 1 Coordinator Communication Design

In this role he has developed this to challenge and engage students in a range of drawing and studio based projects while attending training in a broad range of digital and traditional design techniques.

He has also expanded the course to allow the students to take part in external exhibitions, competitions briefs, self-directed I.T. study, PPD and group projects to provide them with a broad and diverse skillset to prepare them for stage 2 of the course.

Module Coordinator for Stage 3 Design Professional Design Studies

In this role he has developed the module is to enable Stage 3 Design students to understand the principles of enterprise and entrepreneurship, project management skills, business and promotion within the context of design practice. This is developed through a range of guest speakers that come from Professional practitioners, support departments within RGU and guest graduates.

Academic Background

2015-17: Learning Enhancement Coordinator (LEC), Gray’s School of Art.

In the role of LEC he was required to promote the enhancement of student learning and students’ experience within the school.

One of his main projects was to develop Personal Professional Development (PPD) with student partners to help students to critically reflect on their learning and actively engage in their personal development.

Another key task in his role as a LEC was to assist the senior team in preparation for an ILSR, which took place in February 2016. The task covered creating a ILSR Moodle site, writing 4 case studies and giving a presentation on his work as a LEC to the panel.

Current Research

2016 - Presented a paper on “Developing PPD within Gray’s with Student Partners” at the RGU’s Teaching and Learning Conference.

2015 - Presented a paper on “Developing and disseminating software skills whilst making it both accessible & stimulating” at the RGU’s Teaching and Learning Conference.

The paper went onto be selected as the ‘best paper’ submitted.
