Role and Responsibilities
Dr Alan MacLennan is Course Leader for the MSc in Information Management and teaches modules in Databases, Networking and Records Management on the course.
His teaching areas span both "traditional" librarianship - cataloguing to AACR2R2 and MARC, and some classification - and topics in the forefront of today's Information revolution, such as networking, the Internet, the World Wide Web and HTML authoring and page design.
Since he gained an MA (General Hons) at Edinburgh University, Alan has had a varied career, including periods in programming, catering and psychiatric Occupational Therapy. He completed a postgraduate diploma and linked Master's in Librarianship and Information Studies at Robert Gordon University working for a time at the University's library, and has been lecturing since 1993.

His academic interests include programming, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet, and virtual worlds. His PhD study looked at user preferences and using virtual worlds for information retrieval.
Outside work, he reads a fair bit (cyberpunk and computer books), does karate (currently black belt, Second Dan, and NVQ Level 2 instructor) plays electric guitar (badly), enjoys real ale and travelling to find it.
