Doctorate success for mum of two
Rita Enwere graduated with a PhD in Environmental Sciences recently, having completed her studies within her three-year target at the same time as getting married and having two children!
Rita carried out a BSc in Pure and Industrial Chemistry, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and then worked for 15 months before starting a Masters degree in Environmental Analysis at Robert Gordon University. This motivated her to go on to study for her PhD to become an expert in her field.
During the course of her studies several life changing events took place including her traditional marriage in Nigeria and then a church wedding in Aberdeen. In January 2008 she had her first baby, Jessica, and took three months off. She fell pregnant again later that year and gave birth to baby boy Ikenna on 30 June 2009.
Rita said: "Due to the support, understanding and encouragement I received from the research degree's office, the Marine Laboratory, my sponsors Petroleum Technology Development Fund Nigeria, and family and friends, I was able to progress in my studies.
"To me, Robert Gordon University is a great place for academic study and I appreciate the great opportunity I've been given to study in the UK."
